Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about buying, owning, and managing domains at Used Domain.
Search & registration
- Where do availability results come from?
- Straight from our registrar at the moment you search. If the registrar connection is not configured, we tell you instead of guessing — we never show availability we did not verify.
- How do I register a new domain?
- Search for a name, choose one marked “available to register”, and complete checkout. The domain appears in your dashboard once the registrar confirms the registration.
- Which extensions (TLDs) can I register?
- The set supported by our registrar. Search checks the most common extensions by default and shows alternatives alongside your exact match.
Premium domains
- What is a premium domain?
- A domain name already owned by Used Domain and listed for sale at a clear price. You buy the name itself; we transfer it to a registrar account in your name.
- What is included in a premium purchase?
- Full ownership of the domain name and our assistance through the transfer. Websites, hosting, content, and trademark rights are not included unless explicitly stated on the listing.
- How long does a premium transfer take?
- Account pushes at the same registrar are usually fast; transfers to another registrar depend on that registrar’s process and typically complete within days. We stay involved until it finishes.
Offers & pricing
- How do offers work?
- On names with offers enabled, submit your price. We review every offer and respond — accept, counter, or decline — typically within two business days. Some listings state a minimum offer.
- Are prices negotiable?
- Where “Make an Offer” is shown, yes — the buy-now price is the immediate-purchase price. Where it is not shown, the listed price is firm.
Payment & wallet
- Which payment methods do you accept?
- Card, PayPal, and cryptocurrency via established payment providers. Card details never touch our servers.
- When is my payment confirmed?
- When the payment provider confirms it directly to our servers via a signed webhook. A browser redirect alone never marks an order paid.
- What is the wallet?
- An account balance you can fund and spend on purchases and renewals. It is an append-only ledger: every credit and debit is a recorded entry you can review.
Renewals & transfers
- How do renewals work?
- Domains can be renewed from your dashboard before expiry; auto-renew can be enabled per domain. Expiry dates are shown plainly — no surprise “urgent renewal” notices.
- Can I transfer a domain in or out?
- Both. Transferring in requires the authorization code from your current registrar; transferring out requires unlocking the domain and requesting an auth code — a step-up-authenticated action. We never obstruct legitimate transfers out.
DNS & management
- What DNS options do I have?
- Managed DNS on our infrastructure, Cloudflare-backed DNS, or your own nameservers. Record changes are snapshotted so you can review history.
- Can I change nameservers?
- Yes, from the domain’s management page. Changes are applied through the registrar and recorded in the audit log.
Security
- How is my account protected?
- Hashed passwords, hashed session tokens, optional magic-link sign-in, step-up authentication for sensitive actions, visible session history, and rate limiting on abuse-prone endpoints.
- How are my domains protected?
- Registrar lock, step-up authentication for transfers and auth codes, DNS snapshots, and a complete audit log of every operation.
Refunds
- Can I get a refund?
- See our refund policy for the full terms. In short: premium purchases are refundable until the transfer begins; domain registrations are generally non-refundable once the registrar has processed them, as registries charge us immediately.
Support
- How do I get help?
- Via the contact page. A person reads every message — for anything involving a payment or a transfer in progress, include the domain name so we can find your order quickly.
